English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur have continued to make some impressive progress in this summer’s transfer window after finally seeing their latest bid for Argentine defender Cristian Romero accepted by Italian Serie A club Atalanta. Spurs needed to sign a new defender after letting Toby Alderweireld leave the club permanently as they needed someone who would replace him in the squad. The London club have been scouting Romero for some time now and also had some scouts to watch his performances firing the Copa America tournament where he impressed and showed his class once again as he convinced Spurs that he was the right man for them.

Romero had an outstanding campaign in the Serie A last season and started attracting interest from a couple of clubs across Europe, including Manchester United, Liverpool, and Paris Saint-Germain. However, the Red Devils decided to sign French central defender Raphael Varane from Real Madrid while Paris Saint-Germain opted to lure Sergio Ramos from the Los Blancos as well. Also, with Liverpool already signing a new defender in Ibrahima Konate, it meant that Spurs had a clear pathway to seal the deal for the Argentina international superstar.

It’s the second player Tottenham will be getting from Atalanta in just a few weeks after also seeing their bid for goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini accepted by the Italian side. Gollini will join Spurs on a season-long and the English club have the option to turn the move into a permanent one next summer if they are impressed by his performances this season.

Gollini and Romero will be looking forward to settling in at Spurs as they look forward to working together to help Spurs achieve a top-four finish this season.
