Everton manager Marco Silva has sent a warning to Liverpool ahead of the weekend’s Merseyside derby at Goodison Park. The Toffees had recently gone through a three-match losing streak in the Premier League but they managed to make amends at Cardiff City with a comfortable 3-0 triumph over Tuesday night.

In that game, Gylfi Sigurdsson was the standout performer with a goal in either half for the Toffees and speaking after the match, Silva happened to hand a warning to Liverpool by suggesting that the attacker would be playing with more confidence, he said: “All of you are seeing a different Sigurdsson this season. You will see, in the next match against Liverpool, Gylfi playing with more confidence.”

Meanwhile, Sigurdsson also spoke positively ahead of the weekend Merseyside derby and stated that the team will be determined to produce a positive result after the shattering defeat during the reverse fixture, he said:“Of course, yes. But it doesn’t matter where they are in the league. You always want to win these games, especially after the disappointing ending to the game the last time we played them. To lose a derby game like that, being so close to a good point away from home, was very disappointing. These are the games you are looking forward to before the season starts.”

In the previous derby at Anfield, Everton appeared on course to secure a valuable point but they managed to squander the game under dramatic circumstances after Divock Origi scored in the final minute of injury time. The goal came about from a mistake by goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, who palmed the ball into Origi’s path rather than clearing over the bar.

Meanwhile, Everton are currently ninth on the table with 36 points after securing their maiden triumph since the start of February. The victory sees them four points behind Watford, who are currently holding onto the seventh position, which may guarantee Europa League qualification for next season.
